About the Role
Research Associates are the hands at the bench — performing sample accessioning, extraction, library prep, and QC that produce the multiomics data layers powering early cancer detection. This is a core bench role in our BSL-2 wet lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform sample reception, accessioning, and chain-of-custody handoff from clinical and partner sources.
- Carry out nucleic-acid extraction, library preparation, and quality control.
- Operate Class II Type A2 biological safety cabinets in the sample prep room.
- Maintain reagent inventory, including proper handling of flammables and corrosives.
- Manage sample storage across +4°C, −20°C, −80°C, and LN2, and respond to storage alarms.
- Follow all BSL-2 biosafety, PPE, and one-way garment-flow protocols.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related field.
- 1–3+ years of wet-lab experience (academic or industry).
- Familiarity with pipetting, extraction kits, and basic NGS library prep.
- Understanding of laboratory safety practices and aseptic technique.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on NGS or qPCR experience.
- Experience in a BSL-2 or regulated laboratory.
- Familiarity with electronic lab notebooks and sample-tracking systems.
A Day in the Role
Fully on-site bench role at the Chicago HQ within the open lab, sample prep room, and cold-storage alcove.
